Menière's diseaseCurrently, it is considered incurable. There is no single operation or miracle drug that will guarantee the disappearance of the disease.
What the science says about the treatments and the course of the disease:
- The Betahistin study: In studies, Betahistin was not more effective than a placebo without active substance – in both groups, the seizures decreased equally!
- The placebo effect: Those who firmly believe in the improvement often experience real relief – but this is usually due to expectations and not the active substance itself.
- Natural course: Long-term observations show that Meniere's attacks become less frequent over the years – even in patients who do not take any medication at all.
- Weak evidence: There is also no clear scientific evidence yet for long-term effectiveness for strict diets or surgical procedures (such as the sacrocolpomy).
