Are exercises against dizziness not helpful?

You've been doing vertigo exercises every day for months or years; you've been to clinics, but the dizziness and lightheadedness persists? This frustration is experienced by extremely many people with PPPD (persistent postural-perceptual dizziness). If conventional exercises do not work, it is usually due to a fundamental misunderstanding.

Why pure training alone is often not enough at PPPD:

  • The reflex usually works flawlessly: Standard eye-stabilization exercises are often prescribed, which are intended to treat inner ear dysfunction. However, in PPPD, the vestibular reflex works completely normally.
  • Exercises need to be tailored exactly to the individual: One-size-fits-all plans from the internet rarely yield success. We need to analyze exactly when, in which environments, and with which body positions dizziness flares up, in order to specifically train for these triggers.
  • Physical training alone is not enough: PPPD requires intensive mental work. Through targeted exposure therapy and everyday strategies, the brain learns to reduce excessive self-observation and to free itself from the dizziness.
  • Cognitive vestibular therapy: The most effective method combined vestibular balance training with elements of behavioral therapy. There is now a dedicated filter for this on our website. Therapist search.
  • Bringing the card house down: PPPD maintains its standing through a cycle of body signals, alert readiness, and avoidance. If we pull out the crucial card at the right moment, this vicious cycle will collapse within itself.
