Storage dizziness or vestibular neuritis?

We have received a community question that many affected people will immediately recognize: Vertigo attacks every 6 years, twice a year. Each time for 3 days in an absolute survival mode, followed by about 6 weeks of accompanying vertigo with certain movements such as lying down or looking up. All of this occurs completely without any warning and regularly in the spring (April/May) and autumn (September/October)!

This is what lies behind such recurring seizures:

  • Typical movement triggers: Such complaints do not indicate a problem with the knee. Vestibular neuritis, but they show the classic image of a benign paroxysmal storage dizziness (BPLS). Typically, there are 5 movements that trigger the rotational dizziness at the touch of a button: 1. Head back far, 2. Head forward far, 3. Lying down, 4. Getting up from lying down and 5. Rotating in lying position (with a straight head everything is fine).
  • High recurrence rates: Unfortunately, relapse occurs again and again with BPLS, and in some affected individuals it can even occur cyclically several times a year.
  • Why vitamin D plays a role: If these recurrences occur frequently, you should definitely have your vitamin D levels tested. Vitamin D ensures that we can absorb calcium from our diet. Since the dissolved ear stones in the inner ear are made of calcium carbonate crystals, targeted vitamin D supplementation can help reduce the recurrence rate and maintain the structures stable.
